Back to School Bus Safety with Chuck

Back to school means more yellow buses on the road. It's important that we prepare our little ones for school bus safety. School bus drivers want to be sure to provide the utmost professional and safe service, and we need help from our passengers to do so.

Minneapolis School Bus Driver and Trainer Chuck created a safety video to share with kids.

In the video he covers the 5 most important school bus safety rules:

Remain Seated

The first school bus safety rule Chuck mentions is to remain seated. The proper way to sit on a school bus is with your body facing forward, bottom in the seat, and hands and feet out of the aisle.

Keep Hands to Self

The second rule is to keep your hands to yourself. It's important to keep your hands to yourself to prevent the spread of germs. This also helps the driver with a clear line of sight behind him.

Use Indoor Voice

The bus driver needs to be able to hear in case of the emergency. Your driver is consistently  listening to the radio, children and outside traffic all at once. Having the volume level low helps the driver focus, and ultimately keeps passengers safe.

No Eating on the Bus

There is no eating on the school bus not only to prevent messes, but to prevent the chance of someone choking and the school bus driver unaware. There are several passengers aboard the bus and it's hard to focus on everyone and the road at the same time. Therefore, we need to prevent any hazards that we can control.

Listen to the Bus Driver

Always follow the drivers instructions. They have your best interest at heart, and are there to keep you safe.
